Beauty is an art that allows us to highlight our individuality and take care of our skin consciously . In this search, natural ingredients have taken on an undisputed role in the world of cosmetics, as they offer real benefits for our skin and our well-being. In this article, we will explore why natural ingredients are important in cosmetics and, in addition, we break down the origin and effect of the main natural ingredients in our hakuLab cosmetic line .
To start, we should define exactly what a natural ingredient is. Each country has its own standards. In Spain, the regulation of natural ingredients in cosmetic products is established by Regulation (EC) No. 1223/2009 on cosmetic products, which applies to all articles marketed in the European Union. According to this regulation, a natural cosmetic ingredient is defined as one that is obtained exclusively from plants, animals, minerals or microorganisms, through physical processes, such as extraction, distillation, pressing or fermentation.
The regulation also establishes that natural ingredients must maintain their original state to the extent possible, that is, they must not be subjected to chemical processes or significant synthetic modifications that alter their original nature. Furthermore, these natural ingredients must meet established safety requirements before they can be used in cosmetic products.
In general, it is considered that a cosmetic product can be labeled as “natural” when it contains a significant proportion of ingredients derived from natural sources. However, there is no consensus on the exact percentage that must be met. Some brands may consider a product “natural” if it contains at least 50% natural ingredients. At hakuLab, we have gone further and more than 90% of our ingredients are.
Benefits of natural ingredients on the skin
Nature is an inexhaustible source of wonderful substances that can transform our skin. Here are some key reasons why it is important:
- Compatibility with the dermis. Our skin is a complex and delicate ecosystem. Natural ingredients, such as vegetable oils and plant extracts, have a similar chemical composition. This allows them to interact harmoniously with our tissues, promoting better absorption and more effective results.
- Nutritive properties. The natural ingredients are loaded with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that provide deep nutrition to our skin. For example, shea butter is rich in vitamins and essential fatty acids, which help repair and regenerate the skin. By choosing products with natural ingredients, we ensure that our skin receives complete and balanced nutrition.
- Suspicious ingredients are avoided. One of the main concerns in conventional cosmetics are synthetic ingredients that can alter the skin. Natural ingredients offer a safe alternative free of harsh chemicals such as parabens, sulfates and phthalates.
What natural ingredients will you find in hakuLab?
These are some of the natural substances with which we have formulated our hakuLab cosmetic creams. In 2022, our laboratory was recognized for this with the Isaac Peral National Prize for Innovation, Research and Science.
Niacinamide . It is an active form of vitamin B3. It strengthens the skin barrier, making it ultra-hydrating (helps the skin retain moisture). One of its most interesting effects on the skin has to do with its ability to regulate sebum production, reducing shine and preventing acne breakouts.
Salicylic acid . It comes from willow bark when it is of natural origin. It is effective in treating acne and has exfoliating properties .
Hop extract . It is obtained from the hop plant and contains a wide variety of bioactive compounds (natural components that influence our skin), such as essential oils, antioxidants or flavonoids. It is astringent (reduces the appearance of enlarged pores) and softening.
Aloe vera. The gel that comes from this plant is very interesting for non-greasy hydration, which is the type of moisturizing effect that acneic skin needs. It is calming and refreshing.
Lactic acid. It acts as a gentle exfoliant, ideal for sensitive skin. Plus, it's ultra-hydrating.
Hyaluronic acid . Although it is a natural ingredient (it is present in our body), cosmetic brands usually use its synthetic version, which is totally safe and effective. Provides long-lasting hydration and reduces fine lines and wrinkles.
Shea Butter. It is obtained from the fruit of the Shea tree, which is native to Africa. It is rich in fatty acids and vitamins A and E, making it a super nutritious ingredient. It soothes the skin, keeps it soft and supple and provides deep hydration.
Almonds oil. This oil, which comes from sweet almonds, is very rich in nutrients. Mature skin needs this type of ingredients to combat wrinkles and sagging. In addition, almond oil thoroughly moisturizes dry skin, which is a passport to the appearance of wrinkles. Hydrate and you will win.
Panthenol. Panthenol, also known as provitamin B5, is a widely used natural cosmetic ingredient due to its many benefits for skin and hair. It is highly valued in natural cosmetics due to its plant origin and its ability to improve the appearance of the dermis. It has moisturizing and repairing properties.
Ferulic acid . It is a natural antioxidant that helps neutralize the action of free radicals and therefore slow down the visible signs of aging. Enhances the action of other antioxidants.
In addition to almond oil, shea butter and panthenol, we have formulated this body lotion with:
Gotu Kola Extract. This herbal ingredient is suitable for sensitive skin. Moisturizes, fights aging and calms reddened skin. It is also known as Centella asiatica.
Glycerin. It is obtained through hydrolysis processes of fats and vegetable oils. It soothes the skin, softens its texture and retains moisture in it, keeping it beautiful, supple and hydrated.
And, of course, CBD
We have left the most important natural ingredient of all for last: CBD or cannabidiol . This natural compound, which comes from industrial hemp, enhances the effects of all the ingredients it accompanies, since it has an antioxidant, moisturizing, sebostatic action (regulates sebum production and, therefore, fights acne), soothing and nutritious. It is suitable for sensitive, oily or dehydrated skin. In our hakuLab creams , you will find it in high concentrations: 800 mg in the 50 ml facial treatments and 1,000 mg in the 250 ml body treatment.
